Event Description
Even if the name Michael Doret doesn’t ring a bell, you’re probably more familiar with his work than you may realize. If you’ve seen his logo for the NY Knicks, or any of his many covers for TIME magazine or for the hardrock group KISS, then you’re aware of the power and dynamism he has brought to the art of letterforms for many years. Michael is one of the most celebrated practitioners of “integrated letterforms”; his award-winning work blurs the distinctions between the worlds of lettering, illustration, and graphic design...Michael will delve into his past and share with the audience the primal sources for the sensibilities that drive his art, and how he came to do what he does. With graphic examples Michael will discuss how he discovered that his environment and surroundings while growing up made deep and lasting impressions in his young mind that are still blatantly reflected in the samples of work he’ll be showing from various stages in his career.
