The Word from Michael Dooley: Freedom on the Fence

Political Poster| Konstanty Sopocko 1948

"Freedom on the Fence" is a documentary about Polish poster design. It's also the name of an event that's taking place next Friday, March 5th, at 11 a.m. as part of my LMU "History of Design" class.

It's only 40 minutes long but I consider the film to be a must-see for any graphic design student, as important in its own way as "Helvetica." And with the guest speaker presentation and gallery tour added, this will definitely be a valuable two-hour opportunity for professionals as well as students to broaden their knowledge and enhance their learning.

Carolyn Peter is the Director/Curator at LMU's Laband Art Gallery and my collaborator on this event. She is arranging for the film's Producer/Director to fly down from Oregon for her talk.

Check out a short preview of the film, with Seymour Chwast, Milton Glaser, and Steve Heller among the talking heads...
